It would have taken a minimum of 1 1/2 hours IF we knew where we were going... but. the likely hood of getting there in 2 hours from her orphanage (the opposite direction of Guangzhou), was more probable because we would have had to stop every few "blocks"... which you know aren't blocks either, to ask for directions... and, if you get conflicting directions, then you have to back track.
Li Ben Qian new exactly where her finding spot was AND how to get there "the fast way"... and, so we were off. It took us 1 hour to drive there... a super fast hour... along super bumpy roads... roads with pot holes and roads with brick in the pot holes... dirt roads too... to get to a very poor town. VERY POOR. We left the orphanage with final goodbyes at 12:30PM and arrived at 1:30PM.
To our delight, a young girl, maybe 10 or 11, was out walking around the courtyard with a baby... when she saw us, she went to get her mama. She wasn't afraid of us, but I am sure we were probably the first white people she had ever seen before.
Her mama FOUND Amaris. What are the chances of that? Only God!
The lady that found Amaris, said she found her in a box, with no blanket about 3PM. It was April 11, 2010 that Amaris was found at the Jiakong hospital on south load in Jing tang town when she was 1 and a half months old.
There was a note strapped to her wrist. Despite my repeated questions of whether or not she was left with a note, this is the first time I have had confirmation. Apparently the name her birth mama gave her was on that note... where is that note? Maybe it never got to the orphanage. But, if they ever find it, I would LOVE to know what her birth mama named her. I had hoped we would learn her birth name so that we could add it to her official name.
It was such a great joy to learn that our daughter Gabriella had a birth note with her name and date of birth on it.
Here's the woman that found Amaris... she said, had she known she could, she would have kept the baby for herself. She said she gave Amaris some water to drink when she found her.
I know the dream of every adopting mama is to get the note, clothes and belongings left with their child...
Maybe someday Amaris' birthnote will show up.
